The Long Road Behind the Book

I didn’t write A Long Hard Road because my life followed some neat path worth bragging about. It didn’t.

I wrote it because the road kept surprising me. Music led to business. Business led to entertainment. Entertainment led to more wrong turns than I care to admit. Some doors opened. Some slammed shut. Some I probably should have left closed in the first place.

But somewhere along the way, I started to understand that the story wasn’t just about what worked out and what didn’t. It was about what happens when you stay with something long after common sense has suggested you might want to try golf.

The book came out of a life spent chasing songs, ideas, opportunities, and a few dreams that refused to die quietly. There were disappointments, lucky breaks, reinventions, questionable decisions, and enough absurd moments to keep me from taking the whole thing too seriously.

Looking back, I realized the long road was never just about getting somewhere. It was about what the road does to you along the way.

That seemed worth writing down.

Why I Wrote It

I wrote this book because the clean version of a life usually leaves out the best parts.

It leaves out the wrong turns, the lucky breaks, the disappointments, the moments when everything seemed to fall apart, and the quiet decisions that changed everything without anyone noticing.

For years I thought I was simply collecting stories. Looking back, I realized I was really collecting lessons about persistence, reinvention, and the strange ways life has of taking us somewhere we never expected to go.

I didn’t write this book to tell people how to live.

I wrote it because I suspect many of us have asked the same questions at one time or another.

What happened to the dreams I used to have?

Did my life turn out the way I thought it would?

And is it ever too late to keep moving forward?

If this book makes you laugh a little, remember a few things you’d forgotten, or see your own journey in a different light, then it accomplished exactly what I hoped it would.
