Reflection
There were a lot of things we did as kids that nobody would dream of letting children do today.
Most of the time, nobody knew where we were. We disappeared after breakfast, showed up when we got hungry, and apparently that counted as a reasonable system of supervision.
We learned that something was dangerous mostly by doing it and discovering, occasionally, that it was dangerous.
I don’t know that we were tougher or braver. We may simply have had fewer adults watching us and considerably worse judgment.
Somehow, most of us made it home.
And years later, the things that probably should have scared us are often the things we remember with the biggest smiles.
