ONE MINUTE ON THE LONG ROAD • EPISODE 3

Whatever Happened to Your Dreams?

Nobody wakes up one morning and decides to stop following their dreams.

Life just keeps giving them errands.

When we were kids, we dreamed before we knew qualifications existed. Then came grades, jobs, bills, mortgages, car repairs and a surprising amount of time spent comparing water heaters.

But maybe the dream never disappeared. Maybe it was simply buried beneath everything that had to be done first.

“Whatever Happened to Your Dreams?” is Episode 3 of One Minute on the Long Road, a series of funny, honest stories about the plans we made, the detours we took and the lives we ended up living.

Dreams rarely disappear with much fanfare

Dreams rarely disappear with much fanfare. There usually isn’t a day when we announce, “Well, that’s the end of that.”

They just get moved down the list.

Life is pretty good at filling a list. There is always something that needs fixing, paying for, picking up, dropping off, or figuring out before Thursday.

Maybe that’s why “someday” is such a dangerous word. It sounds like a date on the calendar, but it doesn’t actually appear on one.

I don’t think the answer is to ignore everything else and run off chasing whatever we dreamed about when we were twelve.

I just think every once in a while it’s worth remembering what we once thought might be possible.

Keep Going Down the Road

One story rarely explains the whole trip. There are more dreams, detours, wrong turns, and small discoveries waiting down the road.
